Personal Banking Service

Next Steps:

To discuss your needs with your Relationship Manager, please:

This service is designed to give you a quicker, more user-friendly way of managing your finances and enables you to keep paperwork down to a minimum.

You can also choose through which channel you wish to access our services and carry out your basic transactions, thereby saving money on bank charges. Here we set out the facilities available under our Personal Banking Service that you will need to conduct your essential day-to-day financial affairs. Please see our description on Online Banking for more details.

Of course, you can still carry out your banking through your branch but certain charges will apply.

The main features of the Personal Banking Service are:

  • Current account
  • Deposit account
  • Cheque book
  • Payments
  • Online Banking
  • ATM access for current accounts

Payments management - essential banking

Streamline your financial management by making the most of our automated payments. Ensure that you do not miss a payment date by setting up Standing Orders and Direct Debits.

Standing Orders

Standing Orders are the perfect way to manage regular payments, which are for the same amount each time, for example for transfers between your personal accounts, or to a family member or friend. To set this up, simply write to your branch, setting out:

  • your account details
  • details of the account to which you wish to make regular transfers
  • the interval and date on which the payments should be made

We will need seven days to process your initial request, to ensure that the first payment is made promptly. If, at any stage, you wish to stop payments, or amend the amount or the interval, please let us know in writing, giving seven days notice.

Direct debits

Direct debits are perfectly suited to making regular payments of varying amounts. For example, settling your telephone bill or store card account. You just need to let the organisation know that you want to make your payment by Direct Debit, and they'll organise all the details for you. You won't need to worry about late payments, and you may even find that you can save money when you pay by Direct Debit.

With a Direct Debit, the organisation to whom you wish to pay money collects the money direct from your account. Written permission for the money to be withdrawn by Direct Debit is given to us, and also to the company or organisation which is collecting the funds (the originator).

Direct Debits which have been debited to your account in error may be claimed back under the Direct Debits Indemnity Rules (Direct Debit Guarantee) once it has been established that the originator is at fault.

Cancellation of a Direct Debit should be made in writing simultaneously to the originator and to us, giving seven days notice.

LINK network - instant access to your cash

If you hold a Current account or Current Extra account, you can access your cash whenever you need it. There are over 64,000 ATM machines displaying the LINK symbol throughout the UK, so you won't have to worry about visiting your local branch. Additionally, there are more than 350,000 LINK ATMs and 310,000 Visa Plus ATMs in over 110 countries worldwide that facilitate cash withdrawals. Using the LINK network for withdrawing cash or checking your balance, provides you with a more cost-effective way of operating your account, as there are certain charges which apply to certain transactions, on Current accounts and Current Extra accounts, that are carried out through your branch. These charges will not apply when those transactions are carried out through an ATM machine.

Managing your bank charges

You can take advantage of the opportunity our new service gives you to enjoy more cost-efficient banking. While many of our fees and charges will not apply to the Personal Banking Service customer if you maintain a minimum cleared credit* balance of £2,000 in your account for the relevant charging period, there are other fees and charges which apply to certain services and transactions.

*Cleared credit balances exclude items such as cheques, lodged to your account, from which the Bank has yet to collect value.

A service that gives you flexibility

Now, wherever you are, you can use this integrated service to find out the daily status of your personal finances in minutes. You no longer have to try to make it to your branch before the doors close. You don't even have to step inside a branch, lose time travelling or stand in a queue to carry out most of your essential personal banking tasks. We believe we have a service that is efficient and focused on your needs.
